The church of good shepherds(back-story of dog)

Mackenzie's famous sheep dog
This dog is no ordinary dog he has quite a sad story...
James Mackenzie was a Shepherd but not with his own sheep ,you see he taught his dog (above) to round up sheep without barking so once the other shepherd's have gone to sleep at the houses lights were all switched off. His dog would sneakily round up the sheep and take them to his master, James Mackenzie. But as this happened the other Shepherd's became more suspicious and noticed his sheep had the same shape of legs ,tummy etc that their old sheep used to have. The only way that they figured to make him stop was to put down his dog ,but he still stands in Tekapo NZ next to the Church of Good Shepherd. Funny that because that dog was involved with a bad Shepherd. If your thinking of going he's worth the wait also maybe look at Mackenzie's country.

  1. What an interesting tale (tail!). The poor dog, being such a loyal and well trained dog for his owner, but ending up being put down as a result. I agree, it is interesting that he ended up being a symbol of the Mackenzie Country, and that the region was named after Mackenzie himself who was in fact a bit of a crook!
